MARCOM Group Ltd., The Description:
MARCOM's "Safety Orientation" HAZWOPER Compliance Videotape Program assists facilities in complying with the employee training requirements of OSHA's HAZWOPER regulation (29 CFR 1910.120), and helps employees avoid exposure to hazardous materials. The Program instructs employees about how to reduce or eliminate potential exposure to hazardous materials in their work environments. Hazardous materials and waste are part of many work situations, and can be found on many types of job sites. OSHA feels that it is so important for employees to know how to recognize these potentially dangerous substances (as well as how to handle and dispose of them properly) they have mandated that anyone working with these materials receive comprehensive training in this area. In 1976, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) to regulate the handling of hazardous waste "from cradle to grave". Since then other regulations have followed, including OSHA's 29 CFR 1910.120, also known as HAZWOPER. As part of these regulations, there are varying requirements for employee training, depending on an employee's specific level of involvement with hazardous materials.
Areas covered in the program include preparing for working with hazardous materials, avoiding bad mental habit and complacency, working at the right pace, controlling emotions, adjusting to the limitations of PPE, mental discipline, acquiring information needed to work safely, and more. The Videotape Program comes with a comprehensive Leader's Guide, reproducible Scheduling & Attendance Form, Employee Quiz, Training Log and Training Certificate. The Program can be used as the basis for approximately two hours of classroom training.
HAZWOPER Safety Orientation Video and DVD Excerpt: Every time that you enter a highly contaminated site, you need to think about the hazards you'll face. Objects you encounter could burn your skin on contact. And breathing the air might permanently damage your lungs. But you're a professional, and you've taken precautions. You're familiar with the substances on site. You've consulted the MSDS's and HAZMAT reference books. You know what these chemicals react with, how to handle them and what their medical affects are. You're wearing the proper level of personal protective equipment (PPE). Your self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) is in perfect working condition, and has a full tank of breathable air. You thoroughly tested your radio, and you know the signals you'll use to communicate with coworkers in the hot zone. You have the monitoring equipment you'll need to detect contaminants in the area. You've been extremely thorough in your preparations, but theirs one other thing that you should never over look, what's going on between your ears. Developing the correct way of thinking is more important to staying safe then your PPE is. With the right orientation you'll be sure to get your job done properly, without exposing yourself to undue risk in the process.
