safety housekeeping video
Many times the accidents we experience are caused by the conditions around us. Slippery floors, broken tools, left over materials, even something as simple as an open filing cabinet, can all cause painful accidents. If we were more safety conscious, and paid more attention to the potential hazards in our workplace, many accidents would never happen. And remember, accidents can effect every aspect of our personal lives as well. Even minor injuries can make our job more difficult and affect our group’s ability to get their work done, causing problems for the company’s operations. But even more important, the injuries resulting from accidents do not stay here at work when you leave. They can cause you to have to give up many of the activities you enjoy, can make life uncomfortable for others (if you can not do your fair share at home) and even make routine activities difficult and painful.

Many of us are exposed to Lock-Out/Tag-Out situations. We are either involved in servicing the machinery and equipment we work with, or we are in a position to cause injuries by inadvertently activating a machine when someone else is working on it. As we all know, on-the-job injuries are something we want to avoid. Depending on what type of injury we suffer, it can effect every aspect of our lives. Many injuries can make our job more difficult and effect our groups’ ability to get their work done, causing problems for the company’s operations. But even more important, ‘on-the-job’ injuries do not stay at work when you leave. They can severely restrict your personal life, causing you to give up many of your recreational activities, make working around the house difficult and even make sleeping a painful experience.

But every Guard or Device has its own characteristics. Some of them can be adjusted, while others are fixed in place. We need to know how each of these Guards work, so we can make sure that they are functioning correctly before we operate any machine. Remember, these Guards and Safety Devices are in place for our protection. We have to respect the power of our machinery, and we have to make sure that we don’t get complacent and try to take dangerous shortcuts. In fact, one of the worst things that we could do would be to purposely disable any Machine Guard. The program we are going to watch provides a lot of good information about how Machine Guards and Devices can help prevent accidents and injuries. To make this the most productive session possible, we need to look at what we want to accomplish here today.

forklift safety video
Today we are going to talk about Forklift/Powered Industrial Truck Safety. In our operations, Powered Industrial Trucks like Forklifts are indispensable. With them we can move heavy loads quickly from place to place. They also allow us to store and retrieve materials from varying heights throughout our facility. And they enable us to load and unload trucks and other vehicles with a minimum of difficulty.

(While this video program can be used by itself, it can also be used as a companion product to MARCOM's DOT HAZMAT "Security Awareness" program)

We have a pretty good safety program here. However, as we all know, from time to time accidents can still occur. Drums or other containers can be damaged and begin to leak, or we may even experience a chemical spill. Some of us may belong to our in-house Emergency Response Team. All of these situations have the potential to cause us to be exposed to hazardous substances. As you probably know, the government has created a set of regulations to make sure that wherever these types of situations take place employees are protected as much as possible from hazardous exposures.

crane safety video
Crane-related accidents are always serious, and can often be deadly, due to the cumbersome and heavy loads that are lifted. A small miscalculation, or a brief moment of inattention, and disaster could strike. Once a load falls, there is little time for people to safely move out of the way. As a result a coworker could be injured, or expensive equipment and materials could be damaged or destroyed... including the crane itself. Because you work with cranes, you are responsible for thousands of dollars worth of material reaching its destination undamaged. But more importantly, you are responsible for the safety of yourself and your coworkers.

Look for cracked wires and defective equipment. Report hazardous conditions. Don’t make repairs unless you’re qualified and authorized. Follow proper work practices like Lock-Out/Tag-Out.
