Description:
MARCOM's ''Workplace Violence'' Videotape Program shows employees how to recognize the warning signs of possible violent behavior, as well as how to avoid or defuse potentially dangerous situations. One out of every six violent crimes occurs in the workplace. And while workplace homicides grab the headlines... (homicide is the second leading cause of death on the job and the number one killer of women in the workplace)... other forms of workplace violence happen much more frequently. No organization, regardless of size or type of business, is immune to workplace violence. The Videotape includes information on the nature of workplace violence, underlying causes, the warning signs, aggressive behavior, threats and verbal abuse, sexual harassment, physical assault, armed assailants, fostering a positive workplace environment, and more. The Videotape Program comes with a comprehensive Leader's Guide, reproducible Scheduling & Attendance Form, Employee Quiz, Training Certificate and Training Log.
Excerpt:
Some people believe a certain amount of conflict on the job is normal. But where do we draw the line? For example, most incidents begin as a disagreement between coworkers. The argument develops into insults, threats, and challenges. Bystanders usually ignore these confrontations, dismissing them as personality conflicts. But the situation can often intensify. Push comes to shove, and the conflict becomes physical. And once they become violent incidents can result in serious injuries, even death. So how much is too much? OSHA requires employers to provide a place of employment free from recognized hazards that are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to employees. Workplace violence should be considered one of those hazards. It is stressful, bad for morale, and downright dangerous.
