Description
Length: 32 Min.
Year Produced:1997
A recent joint Coast Guard / American Waterways Operators report found that Man overboard accidents account for 78% of Inland Waterways job related fatalities, and that slips, trips, and falls was the major cause of man overboard incidents. It doesn't take a great height to fall from to become seriously injured. 70% of all falls result from levels of 10 feet or less and more than half are from less then 7 feet. Even on level surfaces falls occur twice as often as falls from heights, with the majority of falls caused by a person's feet slipping out from beneath their upper bodies. Slipping and tripping hazards can be found on any surface, rough or smooth, as well as on littered decks, around exposed wires and lines, loose hatch covers, or anything else that protrudes into a walkway. In cost to society and business the numbers are staggering. If we base the figures on a "human capital approach" the lifetime cost of injuries due to falls in the United States are estimated at over $37.5 billion! As you can see these often preventable accidents are hurting everyone. You have all heard of instances of Slips, Trips, and Falls on the Inland Waterways. They happen suddenly, are unexpected and can lead to injuries and falls overboard. With so much at stake it is truly in your best interest to know exactly how a slip, trip, or fall can strike most anyone at anytime
