Overview:

This program discusses the perioperative nurse's role in caring for the awake patient during surgical interventions. It reviews the goals and objectives of conscious sedation/analgesia. It examines suggested knowledge and skill requirements for the perioperative nurse managing the care for the patient receiving conscious sedation/analgesia. It offers the learner assistance in establishing and maintaining competencies for monitoring and administering medications to the patient receiving conscious sedation/analgesia during a short-term, therapeutic, or diagnostic procedure.
