The short term effects of exposure to polluted air can include irritation of the eyes, nose and throat. Bad air can also cause headaches, dizziness and fatigue. Long term exposure to air contaminants can lead to serious illness. Such as asthma and even emphysema. Air pollution isn't just an outdoor problem. Inside a building contaminated air causes major problems for the people who breathe it. In fact indoor air quality has been enough of a concern that the US environmental protection agency (the EPA) and the national institute of safety and health (NIOSH) have created an indoor air quality guide. The purpose of this guide is to make everyone aware of the potentially harmful effects of poor air quality.
