Overview: Recurring blood shortages, and concern about bloodborne diseases has led to the development of a large number of highly effective techniques to conserve blood during surgery. This program discusses the reasons for blood conservation in surgery, and surveys the various state-of-the-art techniques for blood conservation used when performing "bloodless" surgery.
